Bump & Bake - Wk 21 & ....

Updated: Aug 5

Ok. I have to be honest. I didn't bake a damn thing for this update! Between work travel for Ben and I, plus a much-needed girl's trip to Austin, it just wasn't high enough on my todo list. Not to mention I've gotten a bit busier at work and we're FINALLY starting on baby girl's room. We are now down a guestroom which bums both of us out because we used that room as the "sleep oasis" when Dom was a newborn. We called it the sleep oasis because for some reason, once you go into that room and shut the door, you hear nothing! Since I was an exclusive pumper with Dom, it meant I didn't need to be the sole parent on duty at night, so Ben and I would sleep in shifts. I would sleep shift 1 from about 9 pm, after my last pump of the day, until about 1 am when I'd need to get up for my middle of the night pump. Ben would sleep 1:30-6ish. The person "sleeping" got to disappear into the sleep oasis during their shift not to be bothered unless the house was burning down. The person not in the sleep oasis was on Dom duty. Feeding him, rocking him, changing him, whatever he required. It worked really well for us because we each got at least 4-5 hours of uninterrupted sleep. Anyone who has ever had a newborn knows that 4 hours of sleep is a straight luxury. So now that the sleep oasis will be P's room, and I'm planning on giving traditional breastfeeding another go, we're brainstorming ideas to still work in shifts.

Ok. On to the good stuff.

Symptoms:

  • Metallic taste - Yes. Still. Though I've discovered that Orbit peppermint gum keeps it at bay best.

  • Night Sweats - Woof!

  • Round Ligament Pain- These are either coming less or annoying me less. I have a feeling it's the latter.

  • Vaginal Pressure - This seems worse at night and right when I wake up in the morning for some reason.

  • Back Pain - Cue the back pain. Being an average height, short-torsoed gal, there is truly not enough space for baby to grow vertically, so my only option is to grow out. This means I am already sporting quite the bump, which also means my back is already working hard to keep me upright. Doesn't help that Dom insists I eat dinner with him at his little table....

  • Peeing While Coughing - Yes. Super fun. I indeed tinkle a bit when I cough. Which I do frequently since Dom keeps coughing in my face and giving me his colds.

Cravings: I am struggling with food hardcore during this pregnancy. Not that it makes me feel sick. It's just that I never truly feel like eating. It feels like something I have to do rather than something I enjoy doing. Still have a few favorites though.

  • Buffalo Chicken Dip

  • Parfaits

  • Grapes

  • Duke's Sauause Sticks

Feeling/Emotion: Generally great! I mean I still cannot wait to not be preggers anymore, but I'm getting along. My mood has done a 180 to the point where I'm almost feeling too sappy and gooey about how grateful I'm feeling these days. Making it over the halfway mark feels like a landmark, which also makes me feel more positive.

Recipe: Oops. Sorry! Hoping I'll get back to this for my next update, but ya'll know how it goes sometimes.

Xoxoxxx,

Rashida
